For several years blogs have been a popular online tool for sharing experiences and creating a community. A lot of examples around motivate people to create their blogs and the Internet is replenished with new interesting resources. Once I decided to create my own blog, not knowing what it would lead to in 2-3 years.
It is always difficult to begin and often newbie bloggers turn to bloggers with experience (let’s call them so). The most frequently asked questions on this topic: How to develop a blog to get you started reading? And how, in consequence, to take your niche in the blogosphere? Below, I collected some tips in the form of folk wisdom (our ancestors always knew how to conduct blogs) ?
So, 12 tips for a successful blogging.
1. Ruby the tree by itself
Think about the task that your blog should solve. Just create a blog “to be” is also good, but in the future you still have to return to this issue. The task of the blog (or call it a goal) will keep you in the right frame when you manage it. At each stage, you can measure how effectively the blog performs the task or how much you deviated from it.
For example, in my case, the task of the blog was to create a site for the publication of new, authoritative and useful articles on optimization and promotion of sites. Later the task changed, but since I knew why I needed a blog, I could clearly draw up a plan of action.
The second example is the blog of the famous Russian businessman Fedor Ovchinnikov sila-uma.ru . His initial task, as Fedor told SMM .ua , was to create a fan or show on the background of a new bookstore to inform, get feedback and attract the first customers. In this case, the tasks and functions of the blog also changed with the development of Fedor himself and his business, but these goals should be clearly understood in order to correctly use his tool (the solution of tasks) in the form of a blog.
2. Whoever hurts, that’s what he says
Define the theme and style of managing your resource and stick to them. Rough-length blogs are of little interest to anyone, if this is not a personal diary. At the initial stage it is very difficult to gain readership if they do not understand what your site is about (along with your uncertainty). They may like 1-2 articles and they will even subscribe to the updates, but as soon as they receive another 2-3 articles on the other topic, they will send you away (if they are not your loyal friends).
Determine which topic you understand best, and if they are different (from fishing to marketing), then get a few more blogs.
The style of reference is also very important. People may not see you live, but regular readers remember the unique style of blogging and your worldview, scanned in articles. Therefore, the blog also forces you to analyze yourself. Later, this will affect the image, but now readers are attracted “in the likeness” and if it is necessary to attract a serious audience – be serious, open to communication of people – be open.
3. Eagle does not catch flies
Write articles on useful and relevant topics. Even if you are in something not a 100% expert, become them and write an authoritative article! This will attract not only readers, but also give additional credibility in their eyes.
Do not be afraid to express your thoughts. This is exactly what people can value in you the most. Why should they hear from you other people’s thoughts and ideas? Do not be afraid to be a “black sheep”, often that’s why people are with you. A good example in this case, Arbayten , who is not afraid to give his opinion on a number of issues or criticism of certain people. That’s why most readers come to his blog.
4. Seven do not wait
The world is changing rapidly and the sphere in which you are an expert is quickly filled with new specialists who can organize a similar tool for exchanging experience or creating a community better than you. There are a lot of examples about this. As soon as you stop being interesting and you get a more useful resource, people leave in search of a new development.
If you decide to make your blog popular, then touch on global topics, look for trends in your area, discuss them on your site, use these trends. For example, recently, trends in search marketing are social networks, behavioral factors, geolocation services and mobilization, and, of course, optimization of conversion. Now, for example, it’s hard to imagine a popular blogger who does not have a Twitter account or a Facebook button from Facebook at the end of each article.
5. Patience and work – all peretrut
Do not expect the response immediately. First time will have to make a lot of effort, not getting the desired response in the form of comments or other feedback. This is a difficult period when people practically do not know anything about you, and it’s worth patience, continuing to follow the goal.
6. Under a recumbent stone water does not flow
People love energetic, active and courageous people. Show these qualities when blogging. Do not just publish articles, but also organize competitions, marathons, take part in such actions from other bloggers. This will allow you to quickly get acquainted with other representatives of the blogosphere and get new readers.
Come up with new “chips”. What else besides articles can you give readers that it is also useful? Maybe there is some tool or a new section, or maybe just a poll or distribution of invites for useful resources ?!
7. One is not a warrior in the field
One is very difficult to succeed, so you should learn the rules of networking. I recommend reading the book “Never eat alone” by Keita Ferrazzi .
Initially, gather a community of friends on your blog, they will be your support at this stage. Later this community will expand, but now you need to manage your blog for someone. Let them be friends, invite everyone you know and who might be interested in the topic of your resource, ask them to leave their review for a new article in the comments.
You need to have the right social circle. What does it mean? As Euripides said (yes, he seems to be the first) :), “Tell me who your friend is, and I’ll tell you who you are.” Expand the circle of communication, but care not only about the number of its participants, but also about the quality of their environment, because it directly affects you and, accordingly, the development of your resource. Try in your circle of acquaintances to have already popular and interesting people.
8. Seated did not notice – get yourself show
The blogosphere is very broad and you may not be noticed if you just sit alone, even if you have super-unique content. Therefore, it is important to take an active part in the development of the blogosphere – to declare yourself, to be constantly in sight. To do this, read and comment on other blogs, participate in discussions, it is sometimes useful to participate in marathons. It is important to be open and communicative, if these qualities are not there, then their work is very useful for the development of your blog!
9. Fisherman sees fisherman from afar
Write a useful content a little, you need to properly present it. Find where there can be people who might be interested in your material? Share on the sites found announcements and articles. Do not concentrate only on your blog, look for like-minded people on different resources, including social networks. Use guest blogging and article marketing .
10. Calmness – wisdom, fervor – stupidity
Criticism in your direction is inevitable! Take criticism with understanding, be a toiler. Inadequate perception of criticism will entail only a decrease in your credibility and the number of regular readers. Try to find a common language with readers, even with the most malevolent, this will lead to success in the long run.
11. You will know the price of a thing, how you will lose
It is necessary to take care of the reader: to provide him with convenient options for reading content both on the site and in the RSS- reader, to give an opportunity to get acquainted with other articles on the topic, including on other resources, to make the site comfortable and understandable, to provide the visitor maximum comfort.
Any discomfort in the form of captcha to send a comment, uncomfortable text formatting, an abundance of advertising or oversaturation of the color scheme of the site can lead to a loss of readers.
12. Grow big, but do not be noodles
I hope this folk wisdom inspires you! I wish you and your blog’s development!
